Richard Brown is the Senior Vice President of Operations for Quanta Technology, a firm specializing in technical and management consulting for electric utilities. His primary areas of expertise are system reliability and asset management. He has published more than eighty technical articles in these areas and is author of the book Electric Power Distribution Reliability. He has provided consulting services to most major electric utilities in the United States and many around the world.
Dr. Brown has been on the leadership team of three successful startup organizations. This includes (1) a distribution systems group, which profitably grew from scratch to $20 million in revenue in two years; (2) an power delivery consulting group, which profitably grew from scratch to $9 million in revenue in three years; and (3) a power systems technology group, which profitably grew from scratch to $5 million in revenue in its first year.
Dr. Brown is a Fellow of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The grade of Fellow
recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred only by
invitation of the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record
of accomplishments. He is actively involved in the IEEE Power Engineering Society (PES), and is presently vice chair of the Planning and Implementation Committee.
Dr. Brown earned his BSEE, MSEE, and PhD from the University of Washington in Seattle, and his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina.

Brown was born in Spokane, Washington, lived in the Seattle metro area for
nine years, and presently lives in Cary, North Carolina. In 2006, Cary
was ranked by Money Magazine as one of the top five places to live in the United States. He lives with his lovely wife Christy; four wonderful children Ashlyn (7), Colton (5), Landrey (3), and Selah (1); two Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs (Guinevere and Lancelot); and a calico cat (Nala).
